Reminder to Providers: Keep Up with Member Prenatal Prescriptions and Education
Date: 11/13/24
It’s important not to forget about the vital prenatal benefits that are available right now for your patients to help prevent countless developmental issues for our Oklahoman babies.
Unfortunately, across Oklahoma, many patients and providers are unaware of the prenatal benefits, and this has kept many people away from seeking prenatal vitamins, and the decline in healthy births.
The good news is that you can help turn this around for your patients, and we are here to help.
Below are tips you can do to assist your patients to get the most out of their visits.
1) Be informed of what is covered– https://www.oklahomacompletehealth.com/members/medicaid/benefits-services/pharmacy.html
· Prenatal vitamins are covered under SoonerSelect and there is no co-pay. The linked website has a list of preferred prescription medications and a list of over-the-counter products covered, both including prenatal vitamins.
· For patients that are indicated to have low-dose aspirin therapy, this benefit is also covered. For more information regarding low-dose aspirin therapy and recommendations, please visit www.Oklahoma.gov/health/maternity
2) Discuss a prescription with your patient –discuss the need for prenatal care and vitamins; and provide the patient with a prescription as needed or educate the patient on how to obtain over the counter benefits to get those vitamins.
3) If there are any questions or issues with coverage, contact Oklahoma Complete Health 1-833-752-1664 (TTY: 711).
